Join us for a musical journey rooted in the sounds of Nicaragua with Omar Ríos Meléndez.
Virtuoso guitarist and composer Omar Ríos Meléndez has been dazzling London audiences since his arrival in UK in 2019. Born in Nicaragua and living and performing in many parts of the world, Omar’s compostions draw influences from flamenco, rock, jazz, Latin American music and more, from his travels to Colombia and the Caribbean, to Russia, Europe and the US. His third album, The Art of Deep Connection, is due out this summer. He has performed at the Union Chapel, the Jazz Cafe and many more highly regarded venues and has collaborated with such musicians as Mayito Rivera (Los Van Van), Jorgito Kamankola (Cuba), Emilio Oviedo (Spain), David Pabon (Puerto Rico), The Flight Behaviour (USA) and with pianist Alex Wilson (UK/Switzerland). He studied Music Education at Upoli, Nicaragua.
What to expect at Listen to the World concerts
Step off the busy London streets into an oasis of beauty and calm at St Ethelburga's Centre, nestled between corporate scyscrappers near Liverpool Street station. More than a concert, Listen to the World events are intimate evenings full of warmth and connection and where we often have a Q&A with the performers. Come with friends or come on your own. You may meet someone new in the audience, or simply enjoy your own company. Our performers may invite you to join them in song, sound or dance, and you can join in as much or as little as you like. We look forward to welcoming you!
We are very grateful to the National Lottery Arts Council England and to Tides Foundation for funding for this programme.
